COMMISSIONS

The best jewellery often starts with a feeling rather than a design.

A moment you want to remember. A person you want to honour. Something you've carried in your head for years but never quite found in a shop. That's exactly where a commission begins.

At Porini the process is simpler than you might think. You don't need to arrive with technical drawings or the right vocabulary. You just need to know what you want to say. The rest is my job.

A piece made for you. Only you.

How it works

It starts with a conversation. Tell me the story behind the piece. Who it's for, what it needs to mean, how it needs to feel to wear. From there I'll work with you on the design, the metal, the details that make it yours rather than anyone else's.

Every commissioned piece is made by hand in solid precious metals in my New Zealand studio. Each one is a single piece. There is no version two sitting in a warehouse somewhere. Just the one made for you.

What people commission

Some arrive with something very specific in mind. Others arrive with nothing more than an occasion and a feeling and we work it out together. Both are fine. Some of the most beautiful pieces have started with the simplest brief.

A ring set with three small stones, each representing a birth month. A pendant that carries a place close to someone's heart. A pair of earrings made to be passed down. A first piece of real jewellery for a daughter becoming a woman.

If you can describe what you want it to mean I can work out how to make it.

What to expect

Every commission is different so timelines and investment vary depending on the complexity of the piece. I'll always be clear with you about both before we begin. There are no surprises.

What doesn't vary is the care that goes into every piece that leaves this studio. Forty years of working in precious metals. A postgraduate training spent restoring historic silverware in Italian churches. Hands that know what they're doing.

Ready to start a conversation?

Tell me what you have in mind. There's no obligation and no jewellery expertise required. Just a story worth telling in metal.
