About
Meet Sue
Porini Design Studio sits in the rolling hills of New Zealand, but my story started rather further away, in Wales.
Over 40 years ago I began a creative journey that took me through Hornsey College of Art in London and eventually to a degree in 3D Design in Jewellery and Silversmithing at Loughborough University. From there, a postgraduate placement took me to Italy, working inside churches, restoring historic silverware. It wasn't a conventional classroom, but it may have been the most formative chapter of my training.
The fascination that started there has never left me.
There's something quietly extraordinary about taking a solid, linear piece of silver or gold and coaxing it into something curved, organic, and alive. Whether it's the smallest pair of earrings or a large statement piece, the process still gets me.
For me, jewellery has always been more than metal and stones. It's expression. It's confidence. It's the piece you reach for without thinking, or the one you save for the moment that matters. Most of all it's personal, made by hand, from me to you.
My studio is in the foothills of the Tararua District in the lower North Island. It's a quiet place to make things. The kind of place where you can hear yourself think between the hammer strikes. Every piece in the Porini Design collection is made here, from the first sketch to the final polish, by the same pair of hands.

Not through excess or complexity, but through intention. Every piece I make is designed to be lived in. To move with you, work with you, and still catch the light at the end of the day.
