Kaizen. The Japanese philosophy of continuous improvement. The idea that nothing is ever finished, only better than it was.

The dome itself embodies the name. Half satin, half high polish, the boundary between the two finishes running as a precise line across the centre marked by two parallel high polish wires. The wires define the division. The division defines the piece. A single silver bead sits off centre along the wires, placed where it felt right rather than where geometry would have dictated.

The offset bead is important. It is the deliberate imperfection in a design that might otherwise read as purely architectural. The reminder that Kaizen is not about achieving perfection. It is about the practice of improvement and the acceptance that the journey never ends.

Half the dome absorbs light. Half throws it back. The wires catch it along two parallel lines. The bead marks a point that is almost but not quite where you expected it.

This is a piece that knows exactly what it is and is completely at peace with it.

Available in small 1cm, medium 1.2cm, or large 1.4cm. Sterling silver, half satin and half high polish dome with parallel high polish wires and offset silver bead. Post soldered to centre, butterfly back. Gold available on request. Handmade in New Zealand by Sue Dunmore, Porini Design Studio.
